That is because it doesn't work properly and is a security risk to your server at this point. Needs more development.

may I ask about the other modules?
Please notice also that while PHP 5.3 may be depricated and still in use on centos 6, RedHat/Centos will still ship all fixed to those edition:
https://access.redhat.com/security/updates/backporting
So your setup will remain secure but once you move to other repositories you will rely on them for fixes.
You can also build your own PHP too but have to maintain it too.
