Fresh install gives phpMyAdmin error

I am testing around with Sentora on a VPS of mine.
But i got an phpMyAdmin error after an fresh install, i needed to upgrade to MySQL 5.5.0 or later.
Sentora is using 5.1.73..

The script should only install the versions, and packages that your linux has. But below is a work around.

What OS are you running, Cent or Ubuntu?

If you are running CentOS you can install the new mysql using the replace.

sudo service mysqld stop # install repo webtatic yum -y install http://mirror.webtatic.com/yum/el6/latest.rpm # install yum-replace yum -y install yum-plugin-replace # update MySQL yum -y replace mysql --replace-with=mysql55 sudo service mysqld start

(The other option is to downgrade phpMyAdmin)

Perform the following to downgrade:

Change directories to phpMyAdmin directory

Code:

cd /etc/zpanel/panel/etc/apps

Move current to old directory

mv phpmyadmin phpmyadmin_old

Download phpMyAdmin from the following location (could be newer versions, check on main site):

wget http://sourceforge.net/projects/phpmyadmin/files/phpMyAdmin/4.0.10.1/phpMyAdmin-4.0.10.1-all-languages.tar.gz/download

Extract the package

tar -zxvf phpMyAdmin-*.tar.gz

Clean up

rm phpMyAdmin-*.tar.gz

Move extracted phpMyAdmin folder to its correct directory

Code:

mv phpMyAdmin-*/ /etc/zpanel/panel/etc/apps/phpmyadmin

Change permissions on directory and all subfolders and files

Code:

chmod 777 -R phpmyadmin/

Change ownership on directory and all subfolders and files

Code:

chown root:root -R phpmyadmin/

Copy phpMyAdmin config from old to new

Code:

cp phpmyadmin_old/config.inc.php phpmyadmin/config.inc.php

Clean up

Code:

rm -Rf phpmyadmin_old

I'm supprised phpmyadmin requires a mysql version of 5.5 ... centos is using a stable securely backported version of mysql. I personally would be looking to make phpmyadmin work on the distro version of mysql rather than relying on external repos..

Alternatively look at installing MariaDB as a drop in replacement

If you do not want to upgrade your MySql install or downgrade your phpMyAdmin you can alternately just modify the common.inc.php file so phpMyAdmin will stop complaining.

In CentOS 6 go to:
/etc/zpanel/panel/etc/apps/phpmyadmin/libraries/common.inc.php

If you open this up, there is a line:

Change it to say:

Now you can use phpMyAdmin without it complaining.
