Fatal error: Call to a member function query() on a non-object ..DatabasePDO.php

Hi guys, need some help in getting our db back online. seems like our website crashed yesterday and now is showing this error:
Fatal error: Call to a member function query() on a non-object in /var/sentora/hostdata/zadmin/public_html/*sitename*/includes/database/DatabasePDO.php on line 53
On Panel side, here's the error:
Critical Error: [0100] - Unable to connect or authenticate to the Sentora database (sentora_core).
We advice that you contact the server administrator to ensure that the database server is online and that the correct connection parameters are being used.
based on searching the forums, here's what we've tried:
1. deleted log files just to be sure since it solved other folks' problems
2. replaced the /DatabasePDO.php being referenced with a back-up copy
3. Will try the password fix, though it's doubtful because we never changed passwords.
Has anyone else gotten this particular error and how'd you fix? No one seems to have gotten the fatal error based on searching the forums.
