A lot goes into coding modules like xbilling, sentastico, error pages, etc. Sometimes it's easier to fix or update the current module than to re-write one from scratch. I have xBilling updated for php 7 but like I mentioned, I never got it to update the new user's account to active if payment was successful. I contacted Modpluz (Original author) to see if he had any ideas. He said he will look into it and let me know. I may have an idea that will use the return-url from paypal to update it, but I think it's better if it would update directly after payment (ipn-url) in case the user closes the browser or hits the back button.
